On June 7, 2020, The Austin Justice Coalition (AJC),  held the “Black Austin Rally and March for Black Lives” which began at 1 p.m. on the campus of Huston-Tillotson University (HTU). The rally was rescheduled from the previous Saturday after the AJC expressed doubts about being able to ensure the safety and well-being of black protestors, following an outbreak of violence during other Austin demonstrations. AJC leader and spokesman, Chas Moore took the podium alongside HTU’s president, Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette, and Brenda Ramos, the mother of Mike Ramos, a man killed by Austin police in April. While each speaker called for unity, this peaceful protest centered around amplifying the voices of Austin’s Black community members.
